I'm going to gather more info to share with Manny at FJTurbines regarding engine life before shop visit is
required:
When the 12,000 high time engine came out of shop, it had a margin of 49.2c degrees,. The engine we want to
install in its place was only 32.0c degrees, this was only repair of oil contamination in gear box and not
considered a shop visit, so margin was low according to Manny, and may require shop visit in 5 years +
I'll ask Manny cost implication of a shop visit
Here is Manny's early update:
Good morning Larry:
Reviewed the information provided and have the following observations:
ESN 888-148 (original engine that was removed)
CSN: 1,670 - TSN: 4,504
Test Cell Run after minor repair due to oil contamination, shows Hot Day EGT margin of 32.0°C (57.6°F)
Seems low for a first run engine with 1,670 cycles since new.
ESN 876-170
CSN: 3,530 - TSN: 10,376
Test Cell Run shows Hot Day EGT margin of 49.2°C (88.5°F). This margin is more consistent with the engine
cycles since new.
There is no information as to the reason for the shop visit and subsequent test cell run.
As discussed, the operating environment should be considered, as it can have a negative impact on the engine
life.
We seen engines that operated in similar environment, where the cooling holes in he HPT blades and related
components were clogged with the fine sand, causing early degradation.
