Hi Reid,
This is certainly NOT a quick question. And I am in Sao Paulo, on my way to the airport, en route to Paris.
I know there are mathematical models of deception in the animal kingdom, but I am not a specialist.
On the other hand, I worked a lot on the problem of SELF-deception - which in a sense is even more complex,
although linked to the problem of deception .
I organized a conference on that topic at Stanford in 1995 with excellent authors. The proceedings were
published as:
J.-P. Dupuy (ed.), Self-Deception and Paradoxes of Rationality, C.S.L.I. Publications, Stanford University, 1998.
I am attaching a synthetic paper that I wrote for the 50th anniversary of Sartre's Being and Nothingness.
More later, from Paris.
All best,
JP

Is there any good general mathematical models of deception? Is this is topic you've spent any time thinking about?
