FYI, an additional anniversary in cryptography in 2011:
The renaissance polymath Leon Battista Alberti is often thought of as one of the "father of
cryptography" in the West.
His text on cryptography, De componendis Cifils, was published in 1466.
Hence 2011 will be the 550th anniversary.
