This is a horrible one! Not only does he not understand what computation is (a formal theory of the behavior of
general causal systems), dishonestly equates computation with a digital von-Neumann architecture (no one
among his opponents would claim that there is a "multiplication module" in the brain etc., and he knows that),
but he also stoops down to enactivism, i.e. cognition is somehow "out there" in the world. I think the enactivists
got it backwards. Cognition is not an interaction between bodies and worlds, but bodies and worlds are
constructs within the brain; "out there" is only an entangled pattern in which our mind finds regularity.
Btw, here is a proposal that I sent out last week to the Foundational Questions Institute, to discuss some of the
implications of AI for physics.
