slightly more substantial—i have changed my schedule of writing and will
now work hard for the next six weeks adding four chapters to my Wild Life;
i had intended to do so roughly year end but now the book is being
translated into Spanish and Polish, with Denmark and Portugal making up
their minds, so it makes sense to add the material quickly, including
minor corrections, so that they can go smoothly into the translations

More material on Huey Newton—including What Huey taught me about the
police—so as to create two chapters instead of one
Surviving socialism in a ganja yard (always intended, outlined in detail)
Talking to birds (very exciting new work, especially here in Jamaica); as
usual most scientists have it backwards, trying to teach other animals
English—Polly wants more than a cracker—instead of figuring out how to
speak bird language themselves and then talk to Polly
i expect to lecture in the UK on "Honor Killing" at the International
Congress of Behavioral Ecology
