Subject: For Leon Black's Birthday
Date: Fri, 18 Mar 2016 12:56:57 +0000
Dear Jeffrey,
For Leon Black's 65th birthday, Debra Black is creating a book to celebrate his life, his work, and his passions.
Filled with photographs, stories, ephemera, and memorabilia from his past, the book is to be a smart, funny,
loving, original tribute to Leon, an expression of his life (so far) in words and images. I am working closely with
Debra and the team at Phaidon to make the book and to collect the material to be included. Leon does not know
about this project, and we hope to keep it that way!
Our goal is to pay homage not only to Leon's remarkable accomplishments, but also to capture as much of his
personality, and all its quirks, idiosyncrasies, and eccentricities, as possible. To help us accomplish this, we ask
you to share with us any stories you have about Leon, any personal experiences you've shared with him. Any
moment, event, experience, or conversation you've had with him either one-on-one or in a group, whether
recently or forty years ago, will work; basically anything that strikes you as important or funny or interesting or
insightful. Whatever you choose to contribute can be specific or general, but the more personal and intimate it is,
the better. It can be as brief as one sentence or as long as a couple of pages containing one story, or a collection
of stories. Don't shy away from irreverence and humor—we welcome it! We want those who know him best to
think, "That's so Leon" as they browse through the pages of this book.
If you care to participate, please send your stories to me by email by April 4. If that date is not ossible, let me
know, and we'll work something out. I can be reached at or . Don't hesitate to
contact me with any questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Andrea Danese
