I don't think he brings God into it at all--he teaches a lot through literature, and his favorite writer is Beckett.
Modem academic "theology" (although he's no theologian, he has spent a career in straight anthropology until
the Harvard appointment) is a funny thing, wouldn't be recognized as religious at all by most believers.
