It is a slightly cute idea to sell this as a "unified theory of intelligence", but the concept of maximizing your
options for the future is a hammer that drives a lot of nails. We have used this as one of the possible heuristics for
soccer-playing robots, for instance.
On the other hand, it is one heuristic that you only use when you do not have anything more substantial at hand,
i.e., usually we want to go straight for a desired outcome that collapses the possible trajectories of the future into
exactly what we want, and it has the drawback that it also increases the complexity of the future (which is why
human subjects in economical experiments often avoid branching event horizons in favor of simpler ones, even
if the expected payoff is lower).
One more interesting aspect of combining entropy with intelligence is the view of cognition as compression,
which essentially amounts to identifying structure in the world by measuring the entropy of the representations.
