I have no idea where we are or what that even means these days.
Here's what I know:
1. He asked me to come late last month (Sept 25) for a check in.
2. I prepared a presentation that included a summary of everything they had asked me
to do as part of the contract plus a separate presentation on my next steps.
3. Larry joined the meeting.
4. Bill liked my idea of mitochondria a lot, he said he would help and asked me to figure
out if I Wanted to pursue as private company or public good and to come back to him
with my thoughts.
5. Then he sent notes in the past few weeks asking to see me, twice. Both times he
cancelled at the last minute. But he had some admin send me a note to cancel.
6. I sent him some updates from other things he had asked but he did not reply.
7. My contract ended October 25.
8. Neither he nor Larry has replied to anything I Send. Sometimes it can take him a few
weeks. Larry never does.
9. I have decided that the best first step to pursue the mitochondrial idea is to do it as
a public good - and here is what it would take to translate the cardiac models to brain:
...12-16 months, $300k
...contract to Boston Children's/Harvard guy to train in the technique $50K
...contract to MD Anderson folks to replicate in pig ischemia model $100K
...contract to UW folks to replicate in mouse ischemia and/or degeneration model
$100K
...post-doc or two to complete the work and help write up the results $50K
...What we get for that is the proof of concept to either go forward or not. Next step is
human trial and create IP around a xeno transplant gel and either grow a company or
sell the idea
...Could try to ask DARPA for some money but need to have done a few experiments
first
10. Paul Allen's CEO sent me a note saying he'd love to check in with me in the next
few months. He says Paul is not keen to hire anyone to be chief scientist but would
make an exception for me if he does. THey keep saying that and I keep following up
but this could be a few years of hide and seek.
11. IFC CEO has told me that next year he's opening up a health practice for investing
in emerging market facilities etc and asked if I was interested. Not really.
