Thanks for your email, Robert - so you are in the snow in my home town!
Please find attached 4 papers, per your request.
Thank you for offering to Skype with us! I don't think we have the technology to do that for the 50+ in class -
perhaps we could plan on it for next Fall's class - then I could arrange the schedule to accommodate when you
might be in LA.
Happy Thanksgiving - with thanks for inviting me to participate.
Cheers,
Mark

Great, Mark! We're beginning to plan the new CTT Breakthroughs! series and pleased you will participate.
(The previous email was a form email.)
Love to do your class. However, I am now in New York - most of my time is New York (when not in China).
Perhaps I could participate via Skype/Facetime? I've done this several times with university classes related to
CTT content.
To get us started, could you send us 3-4 of your papers related to music and brain/mind.
At some point, we'll do a conference call. One topic would be to work with Peter on a possible verite scene
that would exemplify music/brain relationships/research (sophisticated but short).
Looking forward and best regards,
Robert

Thank you, Robert - I'm honored to accept your invitation. Are you in LA? I'd love to come by and hear
about your "Breakthrough!" mini-series and exchange some ideas.
Re: Brain Research at UCLA - I'm presently teaching in the UCLA Neuroscience Program - my Music Mind
& Brain seminar on Thurs nights has fifty 21 year olds who would love to meet you and to hear your take on
the four brain research papers they are presenting on "Intelligence, Talent & Creativity," the theme of the
seminar on Dec 6th, 6:30-9:30P. Howard Gardner used to guest-prof this seminar when the course started at
Harvard in the late '90s. And they'd love to hear about your career-related decisions when you were at UCLA
- about 75% of the class is comprised of seniors and juniors who are Neuroscience majors. They just
"interviewed" this week's guest professor of the Rhythm seminar, neuroscientist/drummer John Iversen of
UCSD, about his career trajectory. Eric Gardner, who has a theater background and has managed creative
artists for 40+ years (including two members of the Beatles) will be there to discuss talent and creativity
from the music industry perspective (the course is jointly sponsored by the Music Industry, Science &
Technology Program in the Dept of Musicology of the Music School and the Undergraduate
Interdepartmental Program for Neuroscience in the College of Letters & Science).
Looking forward to seeing you again soon,
Mark

Dear Dr. Tramo:
I write to invite you to be interviewed on Closer To Truth, our long-running PBS / public television
series and web archive that explores fundamental questions and features leading scientists and
philosophers. (See below for a description.) Our physics episodes, for example, feature Steven
Weinberg, Freeman Dyson, Frank Wilczek, Leonard Susskind, Alan Guth, Max Tegmark, etc.
As executive producer and host of Closer To Truth, pleased to announce a new science-
based Closer To Truth mini-series — Breakthroughs! — which will explore, in 13 episodes, new
ideas and ways of thinking in mathematics, biology, neuroscience, and more. Our orientation is
the philosophical foundations of science, mathematics, and biology.
If you might be interested, we would be pleased to discuss your possible appearance in
the Breakthroughs! episode pertaining to music.
We will be filming in various locations in the United States and the United Kingdom from January
through summer of 2019. Our hope is that, should you be interested, we could find a time and
location that is convenient for you. We would work together on content / topics / questions in your
area of expertise.
Like Closer To Truth, Breakthroughs! strives for intellectual depth in an informal style — much
like a conversation between colleagues.
Peter Getzels is Closer To Truth's award-winning producer/director (and co-creator). I created,
write, host and executive produce Closer To Truth; my PhD is in brain research (UCLA); my most
recent book, with John Leslie, is The Mystery of Existence: Why is them Anything At All?
Breakthroughs! would present your work and insights to serious, literate audiences.
If you would like to participate, Peter and his team will reach out to answer questions
and coordinate logistics.

Sincerely,
Robert
