Shannon explained that the engine connecting rod failed internally causing the engine to seize and lock up
Shannon told me the reason why we are having so much difficulty with Little C is that he believes proper
maintenance is not being performed on a regular basis..
Could be lack of desire from captains or follow up from or that Little C is always needed to run..however
work can always be done on Saturday or Sunday when full crew is not working..
Shannon recommends the following maintenance:
every 100 hours change the oil
every 300 hours change the impellers (water pump that runs the cooling system to keep engines cool)
every 1000 hours change the timing belt
I asked Shannon estimated value of our old engine (4,500) which he said is all in the value of parts for our
fleet which all have the same Yamaha engines..
