Hello Brice,
Please excuse my delay in responding, your email just popped up this afternoon. Our suggestion to seal
excessively rocky areas with hot asphalt fines or asphalt emulsion is not meant to improve the riding surface
but rather to preserve the structural integrity of those particular areas. We know we have some areas to repair
where we got a rocky load from the hot plant, but they are a tiny fraction of the total roadway. An overlay
would be an extreme measure and be very expensive too since the asphalt would probably have to come out of
Albuquerque. Also, with all the vertical and horizontal curves on the narrow road, improvement might not be
realized. We will walk the road with a ten feet straight edge to assess the smoothness per NMDOT
specifications and repair any non conforming sections. Our completion schedule, barring any necessary repairs
is attached as well as our September progress billing.
Thank you,

Unfortunately the Rollers had little impact on the Uneven Surface of the Paved Road.
Due to the Extent of the Uneven Surface Issues, I have concerns regarding the proposed solution of Sealing the Road with Hot Asphalt
or Emulsified Asphalt.
Would it not be more prudent to do an overlay from the Main House Coral to the Cattle Guard at Ranch Central.?
Can you also forward a schedule for remaining Paving work at Ranch to Route 41.

Hello Brice,
The photos were received. We will send a large steel wheel roller and a pneumatic ( rubber tires ) roller out
tomorrow. The large roller will be used to "iron out' the asphalt mat to improve smoothness, and the
kneading action of the rubber tires on the pneumatic roller will help close the voids in any rocky areas.
Rocky areas that do not show improvement will be sealed with hot asphalt fines or emulsified asphalt. I
have asked David Vigil, who is the Lab manager for BSN Santa Fe, to take a look next week at the texture
of the asphalt surface on Zorro Road and give us his professional opinion. BSN is the testing laboratory on
Zorro Ranch and White Lakes.
Thank you,

Good Morning Gilbert

As discussed yesterday, t have my concerns regarding the Paving Project at the Ranch.
I have attached photo's of the surface from White Lakes Road, which by all accounts is a similar application of that of the Ranch.
It appears the surface on White Lakes Road is more compact and smother application than that of the Ranch.
We also applied water to the paved section this morning, and this confirms the unevenness of the surface.
I would advise we need to address these issue before continuing paving of other locations
