Hi Rich,
This visit focused on the island grid layout and 3-phase distribution design. The grid has historically had a
major power draw around 2am. We found several easy changes that need to be made my Danny Vickers that
might solve this problem. Some of the distribution panels on the grid have neutral and grounds bonded together
which can cause a "voltage loop" and send power directly to ground when power consumption takes place. The
ground and the neutral should only bond in one place and that is the multi-cluster box in the battery room.
We also thermal imaged all the main electrical connections on the island. We found a few charred wires that
were trimmed and re-seated to eliminate fire hazard.
Danny and I concluded that he could easily upgrade the main panel under the main house to a 200A 3-phase
panel instead of the current situation which is 3-phase distribution but single phase energy usage. This creates
an imbalance and leads to a major loss of efficiency.
We will continue to watch the systems performance and once these changes are made we will check to see if
we are still experiencing the 2am battery drain.
The attached pictures show heat signatures we are addressing. Some of them have been rectified already.
