as you know, i know nothing about finances
appears now to be true of politics too
i was stunned and i thought her victory would bring a nice stock market surge and his a terrible plunge—tuns out
i am $22,000 richer in retirement funds since election day
would be very curious what you make of all this
will be in FLA December 2 yo 4 and then 5 to whenever
on my personal finances my plan is simply to earn more than i am spending, through speaking fees, fellowships
and possible jobs for the next several years; this fall has been very encouraging at least where talks are
concerned
i am applying now for a one-year fellowship at an Institute for Advanced Studies in Aarhus, Denmark, starting
this coming October
one question i have of you
you were kind enough to offer a $100,000 gift to CUNY if they would sign me aboard, can i use that as an ace in
the hole were i negotiating with someone else, e.g. Oklahoma State? that is, i would not mention it right away
but if it came down to me having to be on campus only one semester a year (my preference) a research offer may
be just the inducement for them to cut my labor in half
otherwise here is wishing you all that is good; i even hope the new president is good for business-somehow i
believe you will figure out the way to make sure he is!
