our knee symmetry and running speed in Jamaicans paper is now due out shortly in PLoS One, a top journal, entirely on-
line
i have nailed town a commitment from the head of the Jamaican Track and Field Association to measure symmetry in
100 'elite' sprinters, split evenly between the sexes (if i could just figure out a way to measure buttocks symmetry at a
polite distance--i would be all over it!) meanwhile i am putting together an international team of experts on measuring
FA which will be headed up by a German friend of mine (Bernhard Fink) who has done a lot of excellent and by John
Manning (co-author) on our paper
as soon as the paper is out i will send you a link and a pdf
meanwhile our paper showing that 2nd:4th digit ratio does not predict sprinting speed (as expected) but does capture
the endurance component of running (for which we use the difference between a subject's times on the
90 and 180 meter runs as a proxy) also as expected--lower 2:4 better endurance in both sexes)
on the personal side i suffered a torn retina, apparently initially high in the Alps in latelune, co-teaching some damn
course for a week and have since had an eye operation to repair three large (and growing) tears
alas i have to return to the hospital for two days later today because, although the retina is coming along just fine, i did
manage to scrape the outer surface of my cornea, and they are afraid of a repeat scrape and/or secondary infection
'otherwise' i am fine
