In a nutshell, and this will sound familiar, I think explanation (imaginative thinking about
causality) plus judgment (goal-based preference function over anything) plus story
telling (making a listener care about what you are saying) is what we need. It will
be `much* easier to accomplish in molecular biology than anywhere else. If I were
going to do it, I would want contributions from Judea Pearl style causal reasoning
folks, and from Geoff Hinton style machine learning folks, many of whom are
under 50. But they have useful technology, not a vision of what to do. I would
also want designers and information visualization folks, since the communicative
aspect of an Al can't just be typing at a teletype any more...
