Jeffrey,
Last week, one of our supporters (now with his own fund, Bronson Point, and previously
"Senior Portfolio Manager at S.A.C.) hosted a reception for us at his home in
Fairfield. 30+ people attended with a goal of raising funds to underwrite a new
staff position. In attendance were a number of private equity, hedge fund
executives and VC investors including some you may know. SAC could not attend
though he asked for additional materials about our work. Over the weeks ahead,
we'll see how successful followup outreach to him and others in this group might
be.
Two weeks ago, I spoke at the UMass Disaster Response Conference to an exceptional
group of delegates from global disaster relief organizations — most of whom
we've worked side-by-side with over the past decade. They all await our training
which we are currently offering. Our reputation is solid and we are highly regarded
in this field.
We have now engaged three PhDs (one a neuroscientist) with whom we are devising a
research methodology to authenticate our protocols which we believe can mitigate
and prevent PTSD in children following natural disasters. We must hire two more
staff members for which we need funding as well as underwriting the actual cost of
research at either Johns Hopkins or another university graduate department.
Though we are behind in our fundraising efforts to date, I remain hopeful that you and
your foundation will consider my request for support. I look forward to a phone
call or visit when possible — I am in my office all day today and tomorrow and
will be in NYC next Tuesday and Wednesday for Josh's 30th birthday.
Warm regards,
Bill
