The Titanic and Beyond: Lessons from the Deep Ocean
The deep ocean is home to a remarkable set of animals that live in highly unusual conditions. This unique
environment also offers lessons on survival and adaptation, as well as crucial lessons on the health of the
overall ocean. Join us as we go on a journey of adventure and discovery with David Gallo, Director of
Special Projects at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
Dr. Gallo has worked with James Cameron and Robert Ballard to explore the Titanic, done pioneering
mapping of the ocean floor using manned submersible vehicles and robots, and captured many of the
astonishing creatures of the deep ocean on film. We will travel with Dr. Gallo beneath the surface of the
sea from the Titanic to Panama and beyond for an evening of breathtaking film and photography as well as
key lessons learned from Dr. Gallo's life of exploration of the deep ocean.
